Arctic terns

These are the real long distance migrating birds, all the others are merely weekend holiday makers. These terns visit both poles, north and south, every year. They circumnavigate planet earth every year. During their travels, they stop off in Brora to raise a few chicks along the beach. They’re just arriving now. Hey, if these guys are dive bombing you, get away from their nests. They lay eggs on the beach, on the ground, and if they’re dive bombing you, watch where you’re putting your feet.

Tern, arctic

This is a male courting a female. She doesn’t seem too impressed by the size of his fish. He’ll have to do better if he wants to impress this girl.
